DTU Food

Who are we?

Our research group at the Technical University of Denmark comprises approximately 15 researchers, currently representing six different nationalities. Most of us are microbiologists with a focus on microbial community analysis and/or microbe-host interplay. We maintain an ambitious, dynamic and sociable research environment with lots of exiting challenges and opportunities.

Our focus

We study how diet, food ingredients and food contaminants affect the composition and activity of the intestinal bacteria and the effects that these bacteria have on the health of children and adults. During the last 5 years, we have made internationally renowned contributions to the microbiome field, for example elucidating the importance of intestinal transit time for microbial metabolism of dietary compounds.

Our environment

We are part of the National Food Institute at DTU, which has as its mission to develop sustainable and value-adding solutions in the areas of food and health for the benefit of society and industry. DTU is recognized internationally as a leading university in the areas of the technical and the natural sciences, renowned for a business-oriented approach, focus on sustainability, and an amazing study environment.
